Amy Swain, Au.D.

Owner

Dr. Amy Swain went to the University of Minnesota where; after working with chinchillas in a hearing research lab, she decided on her career path. Now with over 35 years of experience, she is confident she can help you hear better. Dr. Swain specializes in hearing aids and hearing testing and takes great pride in helping her patients with all of their hearing needs.

More About Dr. Swain

Dr. Amy has been an Audiologist since 1989, specializing in many different brands of hearing aids.

Dr. Amy went to the University of Minnesota and had not yet decided on her career path when she took a job testing the hearing in chinchillas in a hearing research lab. The ear of a chinchilla is very similar to the human ear.  It was then that she decided she wanted to learn more about how we hear.

She was awarded her Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders in 1987 from the University of Minnesota and went on to acquire her Master’s Degree in Audiology, also from the University of Minnesota, in 1989. She spent about 5 years dispensing hearing aids for Mayo Medical Ventures in Rochester, MN and many years after that working in private practice.

Amy started her own hearing aid clinic in 2006 and during that time she earned her Doctorate Degree in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences in the spring of 2010. Now with over 35 years of experience and 20 years as a business owner, she is confident she can help you hear better.

Dr. Amy Swain is a member of the Minnesota Academy of Audiology as well as a fellow member of the American Academy of Audiology and a fellow of the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists. Her hearing centers are also members of the Better Business Bureau.

When she is not working she enjoys reading, cooking, gardening and playing with her
granddaughters.

Mackenzie Springman, Au.D.

Mackenzie Springman, Au.D.

Staff Audiologist

Dr. Mackenzie Springman has always had a desire to help improve people’s quality of life. As a child she frequently had ear infections which lead to multiple ear surgeries. Her passion for Audiology grew from her own life experiences with her ears and hearing. She believes better hearing and communication skills can greatly impact people’s quality of life for the better and strives to reach optimal results for her patients.

More About Dr. Springman

Dr. Springman has always been passionate about improving quality of life through better hearing. Her interest in Audiology began early, shaped by frequent childhood ear infections and multiple ear surgeries. These personal experiences inspired her commitment to helping others hear more clearly and communicate more confidently. She believes that better hearing and strong communication skills can have a profound impact on overall well-being, and she strives to achieve the best possible outcomes for every patient.

Dr. Springman joined Amy Swain Hearing Centers in 2020. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Minnesota–Duluth, along with minors in Psychology and Deaf Studies. This academic background provided her with skills in American Sign Language (ASL), a deeper understanding of Deaf culture, history, and identity, and the ability to bridge communication gaps with Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) communities. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Audiology from the University of Cincinnati.

While at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Springman conducted research focused on hearing conservation for musicians, developing strategies to help minimize noise-induced hearing loss during practice and performance. She also earned a certificate in Animal Audiology, gaining unique experience performing auditory brainstem response
(ABR) testing on dogs using techniques similar to those used in infant hearing assessments!

Dr. Springman sees patients full-time at our Rochester location. When she isn’t working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, who keep her happily on the go.

Morgan Benton, Au.D.

Morgan Benton, Au.D.

Staff Audiologist

With a background in American Sign Language and a strong belief in patient-centered care, she is dedicated to creating meaningful connections and helping each individual hear their best. Dr. Benton is excited to be part of the Amy Swain team and looks forward to making a positive impact in the community.

More About Dr. Benton
Dr. Benton grew up in Rochester, MN, and earned her Doctorate of Audiology from Pacific University near Portland, Oregon. Her passion for audiology began with her own family’s history of hearing loss, giving her a personal understanding of how hearing can shape everyday life. With a background in American Sign Language and a strong belief in patient-centered care, she is dedicated to creating meaningful connections and helping each individual hear their best. Dr. Benton is excited to be part of the Amy Swain team and looks forward to making a positive impact in the community.

Dr. Benton’s interest in audiology started at a young age. Her great-grandmother lived with a severe progressive hearing loss, and she was fascinated by the hearing aids she wore and would ask many questions to understand how they function. Together they’d change batteries and clean the devices. Dr. Benton’s grandmother also has hearing loss managed by hearing aids, and she would attend appointments prior to her education. These experiences motivated Dr. Benton to become an audiologist—supporting people through their hearing journey and learning about the latest technology that can make a difference. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Wisconsin–River Falls in 2022 and went on to work as a Newborn Hearing Screener, assessing babies in both the well-baby unit and NICU. During this time she also completed medical improvement research to educate patients about cochlear implants.

She then pursued her Doctorate of Audiology at Pacific University in Hillsboro, Oregon, where she also completed research on hearing screening protocols in U.S. Tribal schools. Outside of the classroom, she and her husband, Deven, loved exploring the Pacific Northwest—hiking waterfalls, spending time on the Oregon Coast, and discovering Portland’s unique culture. For her final year of training, Dr. Benton returned closer to home, completing her externship at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato, MN, where she gained valuable experience in vestibular testing, cochlear implant programming, and pediatric amplification.

Today, Dr. Benton sees patients in the Owatonna, Austin, and Waseca offices, and is thrilled to join the Amy Swain team. When she isn’t working, you’ll likely find her and Deven on the golf course, reading a good “whodone-it” mystery novel, or spending quality time with family and friends.
